discovered that I rather liked being referred to in the third person. I also discovered that perhaps, when listening to academics, it helps if they're
speaking in a language you don't understand. I have a feeling that if they'd been delivering those papers in English, I wouldn't have had a clue what they were talking about. But as it was, I absorbed their meaning like a
madeleine absorbs lime-blossom tea. Although I'd need to have another madeleine and another cup of tea in order to remember what it was I thought I understood. All I can tell you now is that it was a lovely, warm decoction of trajectories, paratext, messages, and quotations. "
